15-Sep-2026

The Ministry of Finance has clarified that banks and system providers cannot levy charges on UPI transactions of up to Rs 2,000 or on payments made using RuPay debit cards. The ministry has notified the changes in the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (51 of 2007). The provision bars banks and system providers from imposing charges, either directly or indirectly, on individuals making or receiving payments through UPI transactions up to Rs 2,000 and RuPay-powered debit cards.
