‘India growth momentum is broadening’: Rahul Bajoria
05-Oct-2026
Strong economic activity in the first quarter of 2026-27 (April-March) likely continued in July-September, with GDP growth seen at 7-7.5%, well above the Reserve Bank of India’s 6.4% August projection, according to Rahul Bajoria, head of India and ASEAN economic research at BofA Global Research. High-frequency indicators suggest growth momentum is broadening despite risks. In the second half of FY27, BofA expects growth to remain stronger than the RBI’s projections, with non-farm sectors likely to stay resilient, Bajoria told Shubham Rana.
Edited excerpts:
Q. What is your assessment of the new GDP series and what issues remain?
A. The new GDP methodology is much more aligned with global SNA guidelines. It addresses several criticisms of the previous series, including double deflation, better measurement of services and incorporation of new information sets such as GST data. From a representative-sample perspective, the new series is far more robust.
