Bank deposits grow 17.8% in August, fastest in decade as FCNR-B inflows mask local mobilisation woes

Bank deposits grew 17.8% year-on-year at the end of August, marking a new high in a decade, as inflows into foreign currency non-resident (bank), or FCNR(B), deposits offset challenges in local deposit mobilisation. Credit growth stood at 19.1% year-on-year, compared with 19.4% at the end of July, according to Reserve Bank of India data.
