US President Donald Trump called for a boycott of Canada’s Bombardier jets in the United States, while also threatening the Canadian dollar, as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs are set to take effect at 12:01 am on Tuesday (local time). These counter-levies, ranging from 15% to 50%, will apply to billions of dollars’ worth of American imports targeting sectors, including dairy, agriculture, electronics, steel, appliances and more. The counter-tariffs target Canada’s largest trading partner under Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government “as a result of the United States’ decision to impose a 50% tariff on $27.6bn of Canadian goods effective August 22,” the Canadian government said alongside its list of duty-subjected products last month.
