Forex reserves hit record $740.8 billion following strong FCNR (B) inflows
05-Sep-2026

India’s foreign exchange reserves climbed to a fresh all-time high of $740.8 billion in the week ending August 28, extending a sharp rebuilding of the country’s external buffer after the West Asia conflict had forced the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to draw down reserves earlier this year. The reserves rose $11.48 billion during the week, after having jumped $12.42 billion to a then-record $729.33 billion in the previous week, according to RBI data. The latest level is an all-time high for India’s headline gross foreign exchange reserves in nominal dollar terms.
