India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue rose 14.8% year-on-year to Rs 1,99,853 crore in August 2026, compared with Rs 1,74,116 crore collected in the same month last year, according to provisional government data released on Tuesday. However, GST collections declined from Rs 2.11 lakh crore in July 2026. This surge was primarily propelled by import revenues, which jumped 29.0% to reach Rs 62,604 crore. Meanwhile, gross domestic GST revenues showed steady expansion, growing by 9.3% to 1,37,249 crore compared to Rs 1,25,570 crore in the same period last year.
