Received an income tax notice due to your CA's mistake? Here's who is liable

A recent ruling by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Chennai, has provided relief to taxpayers who unknowingly face penalties because of mistakes made by their tax consultants. The tribunal set aside a penalty of Rs 1.92 lakh imposed on an elderly taxpayer after finding that the errors in her income tax return (ITR) were inadvertent and not an attempt to misreport or conceal income.
