US announces 10% tariffs on Indian imported goods over use of forced labour
24-Jul-2026

The United States on Thursday introduced new tariffs of 10% and 12.5% on imports from several countries under Section 301. India has been placed in the lower 10% tariff slab, instead of the higher 12.5% that was being considered earlier. The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) announced new tariffs on imports from 60 trade partners. The order by US President Donald Trump, was based on concerns that these economies had not done enough to stop the import of products made using forced labour. India is one of 17 economies that received the lower 10% tariff rate, along with countries such as the UK, Canada, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico.
