Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal on Monday asked the industry to seek opportunities in import substitution for both domestic market and exports. He also asked companies to source inputs from local players to the extent possible. Addressing domestic traders, he said: “You should keep an eye on what goods are being imported, because opportunities lie there, as these goods could potentially be manufactured in India.” He asked stakeholders to study import trends through the commerce ministry’s trade portal and identify opportunities. The minister said despite global economic uncertainties, triggered by the Russia-Ukraine and West Asia war, India’s overall exports–goods and services combined–rose about 5% to $863.11 billion in 2025-26.
