The government has asked banks to complement physical branches with digital banking infrastructure, including assisted modes and vernacular language availability, for last-mile reach. Financial services secretary M Nagaraju on Wednesday reviewed the progress of financial inclusion schemes with public sector banks (PSBs) and major private banks. The finance ministry issued a statement saying that Nagaraju asked banks for expanding their network in those villages identified for branch expansion, especially in the northeastern states.
