India New Zealand FTA to help reduce India's dependence on select markets, says CITI
27-Apr-2026

The India New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) being signed today is expected to help reduce India’s dependence on select markets, said industry body Confederation of Indian Textile Industries (CITI). Made up garments category was the fourth largest import category of Indian imports into New Zealand in the year ended December 2025. India is looking at increasing import of New Zealand’s premium wool for use in high end garment exports. “We expect the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and New Zealand to strengthen the ongoing efforts of India’s textile and apparel exporters to reduce dependence on select markets, move up the value chain and lend added momentum to India’s 2030 aspiration of a $350 billion textile and apparel industry,” said CITI in a statement.
