India has emerged as the worst-performing new market globally for Tesla Inc, highlighting the challenges the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle maker faces despite a rapidly expanding luxury EV segment in the country. On April 22, the American EV manufacturer launched a six-seater version of its best-selling Model YL in India, its first major product move since entering the world's third largest car market in July 2025. Vehicle registration data show Tesla sold just 342 cars in India in the final six months of FY26. The company had started deliveries at the end of September 2025, two months after its India debut.
