Small savings inflows touch Rs 2.17 lakh crore despite shift to new tax regime

Collections under the National Small Savings Fund (NSSF) touched Rs 2.17 lakh crore as of January 10, accounting for about two-thirds of the budget estimate (BE) for the fiscal, people familiar with the matter said. Given that a large part of such deposits typically flows in the March quarter, driven by the year-end rush for tax-saving instruments, officials expect the overall 2025-26 collections to exceed the initial target.
