India's merchandise trade deficit marginally widens to $25 billion in December

India's merchandise trade deficit in December has widened marginally to $25.04 billion, with the overall exports likely to cross $850 billion in the current fiscal. In November, the merchandise trade deficit had narrowed significantly to $24.53 billion. The country's merchandise exports rose from $37.8 billion in December 2024 to $38.51 billion in the reported month despite all the global trade turmoil, the commerce secretary Rajesh Agrawal said. Imports, on the other hand, jumped to $63.55 billion in December 2025, compared to $58.43 billion in the same period of the previous financial year. Services exports fell marginally to $35.50 billion, while services imports were almost flat at $17.38 billion in the reported month. Overall, total exports stood at $74.01 billion, with imports growing to $80.94 billion in December 2025, government data showed.
