America defanged WTO. India wants its fangs back

After a meeting of trade ministers in Paris yesterday, commerce & industry minister Piyush Goyal said India has identified the restoration of the dispute settlement mechanism at the World Trade Organization (WTO) as the first priority for the members. The World Trade Organization (WTO) has long served as the cornerstone of the global trading system, providing a structured platform for resolving disputes among member nations. However, since 2019, the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism has been effectively paralyzed, primarily due to America's systematic blocking of appointments to the Appellate Body.
