The Sanjiv Goenka-led RP-SG Group and PE firm CVC Capital won the two Indian Premier League franchises on offer with record bids, taking the number of teams to 10 for the next season. The RP-SG Group bid Rs 7,090 crore and will own the Lucknow franchise. CVC Capital bid Rs 5,625 crore for the Ahmedabad team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had set Rs 2,000 crore as the base price. The RP-SG bid is more than four times the previous highest offer for an IPL team. Goenka told ET he was delighted to be back in the IPL. “It’s a matter of great honour to be there with people like Nita Ambani, the Jindals and others. This is just the beginning, and we have to work towards making a good team and perform on pitch,” he said.
